John Worthington & Associates Pty Ltd was established in ​1976. It grew with the addition of several consultants, and who are still associated with the new entity Worthington Cunniffe & Associates Pty Ltd which was formed in 2019.

John Worthington 
​ Consultant (Semi Retired)

John Worthington worked as a General Foreman, Construction Manager before forming Worthington Constructions Pty Ltd in 1979 and constructed domestic residences, factories a Railway Station and tennis courts in Australia and Fiji.

In 1987 John formed John Worthington & Associates Pty Ltd and carried out Pre-purchase Building & Pest reports employing 5 consultants carrying out over 25,000 reports.

Since 1989 John has carried out expert reports and built a strong reputation as a Building Expert in NCAT, Local, District, Federal and Supreme Courts.

After gaining a Masters Degree in Dispute Resolution John has carried out many Mediations and in 2008 was Nationally accredited by the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators.

John is now in retired.

Matt Wood
Building Consultant

Matt completed his carpentry apprenticeship with John Cunniffe, having previously completed a metal fabrication apprenticeship and achieving Apprentice of the Year.

Matt has been a site supervisor for over 5 years and joined Worthington Cunniffe in January 2024 as a junior building consultant and has gained some valuable experience in a dozen NCAT matters, drawing up scope of works and bill of quantities. He has completed Timber Pest Course and prepares reports on building and pest reports for litigation.

Matt is a member of the Concrete Institute of Australia and regularly attends their seminars. He also attended the inaugural Expert Witness conference and Pesticon 24. 

Dr John Cunniffe
Forensic Building Consultant

John is a fourth-generation builder, dating back to 1899. He was brought up "on the tools" building residential houses in New Zealand. His mother was a draughtswoman, and her father (Leo J. Poff) was a land surveyor and eventually the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

​He has built 85 houses, duplexes and several townhouses developments in Sydney in the past 15 years, and is still doing some design and builds extensions, and remedial work projects. He has conducted over 771 building inspections and prepared hundreds of progress, final, dilapidation, and expert witness building reports.

John is a former president of the Parramatta Cumberland Division of the Master Builders Association NSW and on the Council of Management. 

John is the chairman of the Strata Inspection Panel and is a trainer and assessor for the Australian Society of Building Consultants. He also serves on the Executive as Secretary and on the Complaints and SIP committees.

He is also on the NSW State Committee for the Concrete Institute of Australia, where he has a passion for concrete cancer and reducing carbon concrete.

​He also holds membership with the Society of Construction Law Australia, the Master Builders Consultants Council, the Australian Environmental Pest Management Association, the Concrete Institute of Australia, and the Australian Institute of Waterproofing.
